The Spring Festival in English

The Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is the most important traditional festival in China. It usually falls between late January and mid-February, marking the beginning of a new lunar year. Families gather from far and wide to celebrate this joyous occasion, creating an atmosphere filled with warmth and harmony.

Preparations for the Spring Festival begin weeks in advance. Homes are thoroughly cleaned to sweep away bad luck, and red couplets are pasted on doors to invite good fortune. The highlight of the celebration is the New Year’s Eve dinner, where family members reunite and savor delicious dishes like dumplings and fish, symbolizing wealth and prosperity.

On New Year’s Day, children receive red envelopes filled with money from elders, wishing them health and success in the coming year. Streets come alive with vibrant dragon dances and fireworks, driving away evil spirits. The Spring Festival continues for 15 days until the Lantern Festival, concluding with a colorful display of lanterns and riddles.
